Butch DeLoria

Canonpoint: After Trouble at the Homefront
Age: 19
Wish: "I wish I could get the old Tunnel Snakes back so we could be the best gang out there. So we could rule with an iron fist and ride once again...or slither, whatever."
Result: He can summon 3 8ft snakes, each representing a member of his old gang. TUNNEL SNAKES GET IT???
Weapon: Butch's toothpick, which is a switchblade
Outfit: Tunnel Snakes rule.

Powers

» Passive Power Butch can understand and communicate with his snakes. He can tell them when to attack, hold back, etc and they will understand. However, they only seem to listen to the commands "attack", "back off", and "help". If he tells them to spy on someone or tries to get them to go somewhere he can't get to they wont understand.

» Active Power When backed up by at least 3 people Butch gains the ability to activate Turf War Mode! Which means he gains a temporary boost in strength along with his 3 companions. However this only lasts for a few seconds and can be really draining since its spread across three people, so if he uses it he better be sure to finish the enemy off!

» Pain Train Sprinting into enemies hurts and staggers them more than any normal attack would. This requires a 10 second cooldown before use again and drains a good chunk of magic. He can only sprint in a straight line for this to take effect.

Background: Here

Personality:

Butch is your classic, rebellious, asshole bully. He's bull-headed and rash, leads a gang of three, and terrorizes his fellow Vault Dwellers because he knew he could get away with it. You see, sometimes he'd be told to harass Vault Dwellers by the Overseer himself in exchange for the guards looking the other way on his shenanigans. He's even so bold as to constantly hit on and harass the Overseer's daughter. However, once the Lone Wanderer's father does the unthinkable and opens the vault all hell breaks loose. People get hurt, some even die...Paul Hannon, one of the members of Butch's gang, was fatally wounded during the radroach infestation. Freddie Gomez, another member, was gunned down by a guard when he tried to escape. The last member other than Butch flat out quit. Now, Butch was never fond of authority figures to begin with, but it's safe to say that after the Overseer went crazy trying to keep the Vault closed and one of his best friends was gunned down, Butch's view on authority figures only got worse. Sure, James opened the vault and Butch was really bitter about that, but it was the authority figures who were responsible for pulling the trigger on Freddie, and imprisoning his gang once they weren't needed by the Overseer anymore.

But behind the tough guy exterior Butch is actually an insecure guy who struggles with feelings of inadequacy regarding his own fears, which he has more than he'd care to admit, as well as an absent father figure and his mother's out of control alcoholism. In typical bully fashion he deals with it by acting out for as long as he could make sarcastic (but not very witty) quips. The only issue that irked him more than his absent father was his drunken mother. Regardless, he loves her more than anything and can be (depending on player dialogue) convinced to face one of his biggest fears and save her from the radroaches. Aside from that, he also begs and pleads with the Lone Wanderer to help save his mother. The person he bullied mercilessly since they were kids...and Butch shamelessly begged for their help. If the LW helps Butch wont try and hide the fact that he's really freaking grateful. He even gives them his Tunnel Snakes jacket and declares them best friends! He shows he's capable of facing his fears and problems, but he needs to be pushed. In fact, because of his whole persona he always hid the fact that he wants to be a barber. But after taking an exam that determines that that's exactly the job he's going to do and being mocked somewhat by the teacher, Butch angrily declares that he'll be the best barber anyone has ever seen! That might also have played into his issue with authority figures...in this case his teacher.

It's also important to note that while Butch is a bully he has a set of his own morals. He does indeed tease, prank, harass, and sometimes rough up, but in his eyes its all harmless fun. If the Lone Wanderer has low enough karma (meaning they're assholes) Butch will decline an offer to join them and tell them they're "too intense". He's not above being a bully but the idea of murdering innocent people for no reason doesn't sit well with him at all. He doesn't want to be a monster, he just wants to go out and have fun. This leads into my next point, actually. Butch is somewhat naive and even gullible. The fact that he thinks that after spending his entire life underground he can simply go out into a radioactive wasteland and form a huge gang successfully attests to that. He's also not very bright in the book smarts department. When taking the G.O.A.T exam the teacher even has to call him out specifically, so it's clear that he didn't make it a priority to pay attention in class. His Intelligence is also 5, so there's that.

Overall Butch is an aggressive guy with insecurities and fears like everyone else, but he'd rather not admit to that. It's not cool! But he's shown that he's capable of growth. He finally accepts his desire to do hair, he's capable of facing his fears, and even dropping the bully act to get his priorities straight (asking the LW for help, and even joining forces with the girl he used to harass mercilessly once the Vault descends into chaos). However Butch isn't done maturing by any stretch. He's still a brute, still obsessed with the idealism of starting a kickass gang, and it's even implied that he picked up his mother's unhealthy affinity for alcohol when he constantly complains about being sober. He's young and dumb but too stubborn to give up on what he wants.

Wish:

"I wish I could get the old Tunnel Snakes back so we could be the best gang out there. So we could rule with an iron fist and ride once again...or slither, whatever."

While Butch was more than happy to leave behind Vault 101 and traverse the Wasteland in search of new members of his future gang, he also missed his old one. All but one member died, and the only survivor other than himself quit a while ago. Butch didn't have anything in life aside from his gang, and with that gone even as he looks to replace them there will always be the good old days haunting him in the back of his mind. If only Paul hadn't gotten bit by that radroach, if only Freddie hadn't been gunned down by security, if only Wally hadn't left. His wish is made with longing and loss, and is granted by gaining the ability to summon snakes. They're about 8ft long and he can only summon 3, each representing one of the original members of his old gang. However, they're not very strong and one can easily be taken out. And once one is taken out the remaining two will despawn, since Butch's desire is for a whole gang. Of Tunnel Snakes.

Passive ability:

Snake Speak: Butch can understand and communicate with his snakes. He can tell them when to attack, hold back, etc and they will understand. However, they only seem to listen to the commands "attack", "back off", and "help". If he tells them to spy on someone or tries to get them to go somewhere he can't get to they wont understand.

This relates to the part of his wish that desires to not just have his old gang back but the desire to be the best gang out there. With the snakes representing the fallen members of his gang and the ability to communicate well with them the ability relates to his desire for a well oiled gang.

Active ability:

Turf War Strength When backed up by at least 3 people Butch gains the ability to activate Turf War Mode! Which means he gains a temporary boost in strength along with his 3 companions. However this only lasts for a few seconds and can be really draining since its spread across three people, so if he uses it he better be sure to finish the enemy off!

This also relates to his desire for a powerful gang when making the wish, and this ability will grant him that.
